The Hudson Bay Railway (HBR) owns and operates over 810 miles of former Canadian National trackage with a network that connects with CN in The Pas, running north through Manitoba to the Hudson Bay.  HBRY is a vital transportation link in northern Manitoba, hauling ores and concentrates, copper, zinc, logs, kraft paper, lumber, and petroleum products. VIA Rail also operates remote services on HBRY using its Hudson Bay passenger train between Winnipeg, MB and Churchill.

Major customers for HBR include Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting, Tolko Manitoba, CVRD Inco, Gardwine North, Stitcco Energy, and the Canadian Wheat Board. Canadian Wheat Board marketed wheat and durum as well as other crops grown in Western Canada are exported through the HBRY's sister company, The Port of Churchill, which is located at the northern terminus of the railway.
